MRS JUNE ARCH VISITED OUR SCHOOL TO SPEAK TO OUR STUDENTS ABOUT HER MEMORIES OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR

Categories: Events,News

We would like to thank Mrs June Arch, the grandmother of one of our teachers, Ms Leighfield,  for coming to our school, on 20th May, and enriching and enhancing the learning of our year 7 students. Through the sharing of her personal war time memories she brought a historical piece of literature that the pupils are studying, to life. They were enraptured as she shared her first hand terrifying but exciting tales of life in the Blitz and events from her war time role as a female fire-fighter. The students heard how she hid her real age in her eagerness and determination to do her bit for the war effort and became a fire-fighter at only thirteen! She fascinated the students when she revealed a week’s rations and discussed a war time diet, thereby allowing them to compare and contrast their privileged life today with that of the past. Thank you, June, for helping bring this fascinating period of time to life and inspiring our students.
