Remembrance Day

25 November 2011

Remembrance Day

On 11th November, all the students and teachers in the school, from year 1 upwards, kept two minutes silence to celebrate the "Remembrance Day". This is an act of respect begun in the UK in memory of those who died in the two world wars. Now it is recognised all over the world as a way to aknowledge the sacrifice of all those who died during armed conflicts, regardless of colour, religion or nationality, a way of remembering them for ever.

After the two minutes silence, students from "years" 12 and 13 read the following beautiful poems, full of sensitiveness, written by Mrs. Langtry, head of the English Department:

Silence

Not long, two minutes

All those who died for

Freedom

We should remember them

Remembrance

Red snow of poppies

In clear air of freedom

Falls on White Crosses

Off to War

Smile as you live us

Pride in Khaki iniform

Be home by Christmas

Action

Hot race and battle

No time to shed a tear for

A comrade fallen

Fatherlesson

Soldier and father

Dying in a foreign land

Your child won't know you

A Mother´s Song

I gave him his life

Tell me you'll remember him

He gave his for you

Husband

Blown apart; a roadside bomb,

Precious flesh of man I loved

Just a statistic

Trilogy

My darling husband

Your precious son born today:

I call him Jimmy

Another victim

Roadside bomb Afghanistan

Sergeant James Freeman

Hush-a-bye Baby

Sleeping now in perfect peace

Print of your father

We also collected money, through the poppy appeal (we raised 153 euros) for the Royal British Legion, which is a charity organisation.
